Living For Jesus

Someone asked a group of Christian businessmen: “If you know about your business or profession the way and depth that you know of your Christian faith given the same number of years of  exposure, what would happen?” That is a searching question!

There is a constant need to heed the call to long for the pure milk and meat of the Bible – reading, studying and meditating to obey it in daily living. Most of us take the ready availability of the Bible for granted. Amos warns the Jews of his days: “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land– not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD(Amos 8:11). The signs of this are already here. Hit “U Tube” on your computer/ mobile devices and you will easily get an idea of the New Age influences sweeping across  the world, targeting at Christians – intriguing study of Bible codes, uncovering the lost tribe of Israel, end time prophecies, visits to heaven and visitations on planet earth. These are exciting to view/listen to, more captivating than the teachings in the Bible. The Church congregation often hardly miss good Bible teaching but focus on the mystical  experiences shared by speakers that make them more indispensable than the Bible. Then, there are also some Christians who stay away from Church out of growing disenchantment and mistrust – for them, the Church is to serve their needs, not the other way around. We need to discern Bible Truth from deceptive errors in our thinking.

Supremacy of Jesus in the lives of Christians depends on how much they gravitate to the  Bible and seek Jesus and His will. It is important for us to dig deep into the Bible! Over the recent months of studying 1 & 2 Peter, we note that the Apostle Peter uses the word “precious” often. His list of valuables is the centrality of Jesus Himself – His Blood, God’s Promises and the Discipline of Christian faith needed. Prayerful meditation of the Bible results in transformed lives in Christlikeness and an assurance that: (For) if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet 1:8). Our Lord Jesus Christ must reign supreme in our lives as we spend much time in the Living Word – the Bible – today.
