Baptism

Why should I be baptised?

Because the Lord Jesus Christ commanded it as part of His great commission. In Matthew 28:19, He says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Baptism is the step that you take as a believer to publicly declare that Jesus Christ is your Saviour and Lord, and to openly show to your family and friends that you belong to God. The Lord Jesus himself was baptised (Matthew 3:16). We, as His disciples, should follow in His steps. Acts 22:16 says, “And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptised and wash away your sins, calling on his name.”

How and when should I be baptised?

The Bible records that all believers are to be baptised. In Acts 2:34-40, Peter preaches a bold sermon to the Jews about the “Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified”. The people are cut to the heart and ask Peter what they should do. Peter then says to them, “Repent and be baptised every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” And they did so. Without delay. Acts 2:41 says, “So those who received his word were baptised, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” In BKC, baptism is by immersion as stated under our Statement of Faith and Practices. We have hot water for our baptismal pool. If you wish to know more about baptism or wish to be baptised, please download the form and email it to: office@bethesdakatong.org.
